We were lucky enough to hear him play in bristol a few years back. To my shame, I'd not then actually heard of him, though had heard of his wife Miriam Makeba, but he happened to be interviewed on radio 3 when I was driving and he sounded good fun as a raconteur as well as a fine jazz musician. Turned out he'd sold out the Albert Hall (!) but there were still tickets that night in a small venue in Bristol so we wandered down. A fine evening it was too, both for music and stories.

What a shame, he did a brilliant version of Herbie Hancock's excellent Cantaloupe Island. RIP Trumpet Dude !

Saw him a couple of times years ago. Brilliant musician, great social commenter too, and great shows!
