... in F1 Racing magazine, of all places. The link will take you to a summary, but the gist of it is that the magazine got one of their staffers together with Mark Webber (current F1 pilot) and Alain Prost to cycle up Alp d'Huez. Prost is in his early 60s now, but still managed to beat Webber up it, in a time of just under 62 minutes. It's worth a read ...

I read most of it this morning when I went to my dad's for a shower. I was surprised it was in there, being an F1 fan and a cyclist as well, I was pretty well catered for! I was always more of a Senna fan though

Senna's driving style was always more exciting to watch, and his natural control over the car was just beautiful. However Prost was also an incredibly talented driver and hes also a talented cyclist apparently. I cant believe Webber lost especially as F1 drivers have to be so fit, I would put it down to technique and also Webber giving too much too soon.

I'll take a look at that. A few of the F1 drivers are keen cyclists. Earlier in the season (Malaysia?) Brundle was doing a preview on track and Jarno Trulli flashed past on a time trial bike, in full skinsuit and aero helmet. Button is a keen triathlete too - he'll even seen fixing a tyre on his Specialized during the terrible Head & Shoulders ad!

I don't deny Prost was a very talented driver - he won 4 driver's championships and for that he deserves full credit. The story behind Ayrton makes me very intrigued though - I was 18 months old when he was killed in that horrific crash at Imola, and I always wonder what could have been between him and Schumacher if he'd been in F1 as Schuey started his "Glory Years". I would think Mark being a very keen cyclist would have won that purely because he's a current F1 driver, but then again the article said Webber was nearly 20kg more than Alain so maybe that counted against him more than is obvious.

That being said, if you're a fan of F1 in general (and especially a fan of the early 90s), I recommend the Senna film. Very good, very honest and very sad as well as very informative.

Timo Glock (German driver, races for Virgin) is also a keen cyclist. I follow him on twitter and he often does quick bike tours between races if he's able to go home (Switzerland, I believe). I believe Nico Rosberg (Mercedes GP) is also mad on cycling too - he posted a photo of his newly custom built bike that was specifically designed and built to his exact measurements. Posh git
