I once paid for a woman's Christmas shopping in a Waitrose in Windsor, her shopping had gone through the checkout and said she had lost her purse, she seemed genuine enough, but some time later I couldn't help the feeling I'd been scammed. The manager of the store thanked me.
At a charity auction I was egged on to bid for some Wimbledon Men's Final tickets, I ended up being the highest bidder. I don't know why I bid really, I had no intention of going, I ended up giving them away to the son of a friend of mine. They made me and the Mrs dinner.
One very wet, cold windy night we were driving home and saw a chap stopped at the side of the road with his moped, we stopped to see if he was ok, he had ran out of fuel and he/we were miles from anywhere and he had no money, he was just a kid. We took him to a petrol station, bought a fuel can filled it up, took him back to the bike and sent him on his way. He said I don't know how to pay you back, we said one day when you're older, you'll do the same for someone else.
I was telephoned about 18 months ago to see if I would do a magic show for a little boy dying in hospital they said they would pay me, I did free of charge, as I was going to be at the hospital anyway donating platelets, the poor lad died four weeks later aged five.
I once bought some dog toys, food and a bone and gave it to the Big Issue seller's dog.
I donate platelets twice a month. I got a badge and pen for that and tea, crisps and McVities Club biscuit.
One summer afternoon I saw a cyclist on the verge near my village with a bike upside down, I stopped and asked if he was ok. He'd had a blowout and no tube, I went home and brought him back a tube and my track pump, and sent him on his way. He apologised for not being able to pay me, I told him to return the favour one day.
Whilst walking the dog one evening a while ago she found a pet rabbit in the hedge, we took it home and made it comfortable in a cardboard box. THe next day we took a photo of it and printed some "found" leaflets and posted them through letterboxes in the village. The owner saw us in her drive and was very grateful because her eight year old daughter was distraught. She bought us a plant as a thank you.
I found a wallet last year in the B&Q car park in Didcot, full of cash and CCs and a couple of business cards, I phoned the number on the card (he was a journalist) and he came back and got it. He sent me a text message thanking me.
