Helmet (IMO), padded shorts, gloves, glasses, track pump, lights, inner tubes, multi tool and some high quality locks (need to spend something £50+) to deter most thieves (some would only be deterred by a hungry Rottweiler and an armed guide)

Subway, Dawes, mongoose in that order but mongoose miles behind due to non lockable heavy suspension

I would second the recommendation of the Gryphon - bought my lad one second hand and borrow it to cycle in the city - excellent build and brakes - quick with road gearing.

I had the same problem viewing the classifieds - but a few more posts and you'll be there.

What's the difference between the 2012/2011 Subway and the 2013 Subway?

Discbrakes, 24 gears, better mech, the ltd editions ones always seem to be of lower spec don't know why. The only thing I've changed on my Subway is the tyres as the default ones are rubbish other than that its a good all round bike, I use it for roads and canals.
