I'm in Scotland and conditions have been deteriorating over the last week. Last year there was an earlier freeze during which I came off twice on black ice on untreated (country) roads. After that I got some studded tyres.
Conditions are worse this year but I haven't come off. I can cross stretches of black ice that a car can't. So I thought this might be of interest:

Slushy slippy snow still causes a problem but I'm getting used to it. Hones the bike skills. I got the Nokians, the tyres are heavier and have poorer rolling resistance but give me a lot of confidence. I've heard the Schwalbe ones are good too.
That said, yesterday was mental. Loads of cars out of control (on second thoughts is that just normal
. Even if you are in control, a van sliding down a hill sideways towards you is not fun...
