New book out about the lovely Hannah Hauxwell.She is about 81.Still hording things and sounds just as batty as ever.I just love her.Saw the programmes and read the books.Another good read try Gerverse Phinn i think that is right.Teacher or education inspector in the country very good tales.

Blimey, she's still soldiering on - one of her books was amongst the selection in a holiday cottage I stayed at a couple of years ago. It wasn't something I'd ordinarily have read, but her life story is really interesting.

I remember seeing the original TV documentary on HH many years ago. She had a hard, hard life. No electricity or running water in the early 1970s. Wasn't her total income less than £200 a year back then?

A quick Google says her income was £250 - £280, a lot of which ended up being spent on feed for her cow. I remember reading about the tiny treats she used to allow herself - extraordinary how she kept going.
