Got a pair of slippers in Home Bargains this morning, £3. They're going in the van for autumn and winter camping.

Four outdoor solar lights for just under £10. Nice and bright and if they only last a year I'll be quids in compared to the mains operated ones that cost a fortune to have installed and lasted two winters.
More landfill, good value.
And price often has no bearing on how long something will last.
Everything we buy will be landfill one day. And price often has no bearing on how long something will last.
Twaddle < he writes, munching on an Aldi apple ... >
And you yourself stated you've chosen to buy something cheap-but-not durable. Bang to rights, matey!

I bought a tiny plastic little glow-in-the-dark cylinder about an inch long, attaches to my key ring, useful for finding keys in the dark. Doesn't need charging up in light (it contains a wee bit of mildly radioactive gas which causes fluoresence of the pigments. Not gonna give anyone cancer!). The packet said it was guaranteed for 10 years....I bought it in 2010. Still works, best £10 I ever spent for worth.

I paid £35+ for a very well-made Specialized track pump over 20 years ago. The pump body is still going strong but the bit that attaches to the valve broke after about 15 years. No more problems since that was replaced though.A £7 plastic track pump from Wilko. I would have spent more had they had a better, more robust looking one in stock but figured it's only £7 and if it breaks in two years I won't have lost much. Still using it twenty years later![]()
