Hi all just a question:

what's a good complete Video editing package on the market, to run on Linux; to post on Utube, that comes in under £200.00

If needed an old XP computer might be able to be pushed into service, but that will be like putting a V8 into an old chassis.

adobe premier elements

i've used the full version, but if the elements version is as good as photoshop's elements, then it should be excellent value for £80…

I think the biggest problem you'd have with linux would be compatability of various licensed video codecs and wrappers.

I can't imagine an H.264 Quicktime file being playable, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong!

Most of the codecs are available.

Thanks for all the post's guys,

I think you have given me and all interested parties a good evaluation of the programs, & the pitfalls involved, on Linux. Mmmmm food for thought I don’t want to pump embalming fluid around the old 32bit XP again. I am holding it together now, with string and sealing wax: well I must have built it 10-15 years ago.

It's just that I hate Windows to use, and I believe the cost is completely unjustified. So,if a big black limo doesn’t pull up a alongside me in the next few days, I will see you soon cheers Zoof.

The only video editing I've done on Ubuntu is simple cutting and deleting, which Avidemux does well. For the complicated stuff cinellerra is supposed to be good, but I haven't used it myself so I cant confirm that..
