Goodbye our old friend Jake

Last week we were preparing for a minor op to drain an abscess and remove a broken tooth, today, hes gone.
Vets rang while he was under sedation, they found it's tumors that spread right up into the roof of his mouth plus he has testicular tumors. Only palliative care looking forward.
He was 11. At 1 year we were told he would struggle beyond 6 because of arthritis, hes done well but he does suffer horribly every now and again with it.
We took the decision quite quickly, euthanize him while he is sedated, seen too many friends dogs go through lots of treatment ...only to be dead within a year anyway.
Up until last night, barring his mild discomfort with his mouth, he seemed fine. He didnt suffer, we take consolation from that.
Jake as maybe a 2 year old

And 4 years ago, looking guilty, he had eaten a bit of mail...

Sorry to hear of the loss of your dog. Take comfort in the fact you gave your dog a good life and did the best you could for him. Its very hard when you lose a pet.

If it's any consolation you did the right thing. I've seen owners drag it out far too long and it's not fair on their pet.
