seems like I have to do quite a lot to make a claim

but will speak to the police when they come to my house for an official statement and take it from there

and thanks for you're help
Hardest part will be getting it all down on paper. But working from the same sheet with everybody will make it easier for you, in the long run.

At least you didn't accept the cash when it was offerred.

When you're back on the road again, take things at your own pace.

I spent nearly two years trying to find out who was actually driving the car that hit me.
Registered to a female, but driven by a male at the time. He supplied false details, leaving only the registration to work with.
Three years afterwards he was saying he thought I was a bus!

You have checked the registration is correct I take it. Or are you waiting on the statement being taken?

yeah I was eyeballing him but he didn;t eyeball me........which makes me think he wasn't even looking period. but this roundabout is hellish as the police themselves said so think this might be a hotspot for this kind of thing. just glad I got off lightly and was able to walk away......this time
Glad to hear you are feeling relatively ok. That's a busy roundabout, I've never cycled there but even in the car it's not a roundabout I like so wouldn't be at all surprised to hear its a bit of an accident blackspot.

In offering you an instant cash settlement, he's trying to defraud his insurer. He is duty bound to notify his insurer of any and all accidents he's involved in. He knows that the legal system will slap his wrist, and the biggest punishment coming his way will be increased premiums, so this is a good way to avoid.

Drivers like this need to be made to take more care. The legal system is't going to make that happen, but wallet pain just might.

Hope you GWS.

I can only hope the police were smart enough to take the correct details at the scene......the car was right there when they arrived and will be sure to ask this when I go to make my official statement regarding the accident. I had given the police my details explaining what happened but as I was getting taken to hospital they said they will come to my house for an official statement sometime this week. will chase up the local police office if I don't hear anything in the next few days to make sure I get a proper statement along with a police incident number to back up my claim.

and when I got hit earlier this year the police got nowhere in finding the driver as he left the scene and I didn;t take anything down which was stupid of me!!
they eventually phoned up and said they weren't goin to find him and closed the investigation.

so will be doin all I can to make sure I get my due for the bike etc. this time round!

lmao! a bus seriously?? man just goes to show how drivers see us cyclists even after knocking us over!!

Always get a good clear picture of the vehicle and it's driver, if you can. I know this is difficult being hit and run myself. Don't expect a lot from the police as they CBA.

@carrera25 i think the police officers who attended when I got knocked off gave me their details

I am sure they would have taken a full statement from the driver and checked all the car details if the driver was still at the scene...wasn't a hit and run was it?

I was sent a full witness form to complete a Week or two later having given as much of a statement as I could at the scene. Similarly the driver and a witness

They won't take a statement from the driver. Most likely he'll be contemp note interviewed.

Well he was certainly asked lots of questions by the officers with my accident, presumably as to what happened...apparently he was kept a while as was breathalysed.... @jefmcg was there, I'd gone off in the ambulance by then

I'm sorry to hear this @carrera25 , glad you're not too badly hurt.
The accident process is a bit of a daunting one, so the main thing is you stuck to your guns with the police and you've been seen by the medics.

Having been through something similar (although he h'n'r) it's very nerve-wracking.

And that's also my understanding in what happened in my RTC. They asked me informally what happened, then went to speak to the driver. A while later they came back and said "we don't need to take a statement from you, she said pretty much the same thing" I assumed they had taken a statement from here.

It's a suspect interview some at the scene, with notes contemporaneously taken by the officer instead of being tape recorded. They usually use proforma questions, and at the end would be "facts reported" so they could be prosecuted for any offences that come to light. Usually used for minor injury stuff.

have you
primary position????

I was in the same spot I use every other day for over a year and never had any problems at all on the roundabout until now!! I was close to the outside (left) of the lane as it gives me the good old ''eyeball the driver'' position while still claiming my space on the road.

think the guy just wasn't paying attention or he had a blind spot.......either way I feel I was in the right in terms of clothing, lights and road position
have you thought of taking the middle of the lane. You may be right that he wasn't looking, certainly not for bikes on the outside. He probably checked for cars on approach and then diverted his view as he came within a few yards of the roundabout to where he was going, so by placing yourself in the middle you would have been where a car would be. Not forgetting that an entrance to a roundabout places there car at a slight angle, this placing a cyclist on the outside of a lane in the blind spot (directly in line with the A pillar of the car). Further when human eyes scan, they take snapshots of certain points, and the brain fills in the gaps with what the human expects to see (so if they are not expecting a cyclist, and the cyclist is within the gap, the brain won't see it).
so we have a driver who had scanned the roundabout on approach, checking the middle of the lane for cars and the placed he is intends to go, and the car at an angle where the cyclist is obscured by the A pillar because he's on the outside of the lane.
I think you would be better in the middle of the lane where a car would be.
