....4 weeks after it was stolen I have got my bike back at last. The police have had it for 2 weeks, but due to it being held as evidence and then the riots I only got it back today.

Whoever nicked it (the police caught him) looked after it as he obviously got a punture and changed the inner tube (different valve length to what I had previously) and added a really nice front light!

I rode it home tonight and it also seemed to be faster! Happy

lol nice too have a happy ending

Good news that the bike is back, now the question is 'what can/are you going to do to try and prevent it happening again'.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keith, I could say use a better lock, but according to the police it doesn't matter what you use, if someone wants your bike they will get it. In the meantime when I go the gym I'll leave the bike at work and get a Boris bike there and back. Have also thought of putting a padlock through the disc of the disc brake like they do on motorbikes.

And what, if anything, did you do that helped you recover it?

John, I reported it to the police and posted it on this website - (that's how they found me, and then traced my report) unfortunately I didn't have the frame no. when I reported it and this makes it difficult for them to trace anyone as their database works by that method, so make sure you note yours down. Also take photographs and details of any changes you have made to the bike as this helped in me proving it was mine. The thief is still claiming it is his!

I have registered my bike here http://www.immobilise.com after seeing the link on this site. It lets you log the frame number and photo's plus any identifying marks.
It all helps I guess

these look worth a shot too

Its nice to have a happy ending for a change.
+1 for immobilise.com, two of my bikes are on there, I haven't looked at the tags though.
