For me this is the perfect starting point for a project; you have a very good frame, but without the original paintwork that could dictate a sensitive restoration.

I prefer to keep mine in their original paint where possible, but I think my Ian May tourer will end up being a refinish, as it's well past the "patina" stage. Must have been used as a station bike at some stage, frame tubes covered with scrape marks.

Well, looks like it's a duff frame. On removing the band-on down tube shifters, I found what looks like a bodged repair and evidence of rust perforation. I don't trust it any more...

Oh dear that is a shame :sad:
 
By the way - can you post a picture of the damage, just wondering if it is that bad?

Thanks @DCBassman, I think that you are right about not trusting the frame :sad:
looks like going in to salvage mode and lots of cleaning up bits - forks could be sold (or keep for putting on to another mixte frame?)
