I was at the front of a line of traffic waiting to join the circulatory of a roundabout. Got shunted from the rear by a car and I came off the bike. I have the driver's details and some other motorists got out of their cars to see if I was OK. I am unhurt but I dont know how my bike (Allez Elite) was affected (it has carbon forks).

To the naked eye, there are no visible signs of damage to the bike. Should I take it to a bike shop for them to double-check (e.g. cracks)? Has anyone done this before to assess damage to their bike?

Glad to hear you haven't done yourself to much harm, you might feel it a bit tomorrow though. When you check the bike check the frame, its possible the impact has distorted it, and it might need a thorough check to to show that up.

A tad off topic (sorry), but i had a school friend pass away after impaling himself on his handlebars whilst on a leisurely cycle with his sister in a park around 6 years ago. It CAN happen.

Firstly I'm pleased that you're ok. I'm still a bit over sensitive and a little twitchy about things since being wiped out a couple of months back so it's always a relief to know that an accident wasn't serious.
Were you moving or stationary when they hit you and did it knock you over or to the ground?

This is why I mention such things -many people are unaware of the dangers. I pointed out the problem to one cyclist with a missing bar plug and he just laughed at me and said "Yeah, right, and what's the chances of that happening?"
