... by a badger.

I was riding along a single track lane with a field to the right and woods to the left. Suddenly I was aware of something coming out of the woods and running next to me, it was too small for a deer and too big for a rabbit or hare (the usual animals I see along here). A double take told me it was a hefty badger, I have never seen one alive in the wild! I could have unclipped and put my foot on its back as it ran alongside me.

Anyway, the road turns to the left but the badger ran straight in front of my front wheel and headed off to the field on the right, no look to see if its clear and no signalling

No collision occured and we went our seperate ways.

Rabbit did it to me once, went under my front wheel and got dragged a bit by the rear.

Probably didn't learn anything from it (yes it ran away).

Had some geese go for me a few weeks back going through a local country park. Have seen the foxes running away and the swan's tend to tgnore me but have never seen a badger yet.

As much as it's a bit scary when it happens quickly, I love how much wildlife close to my house I have seen that I had never seen before I started cycling to work regularly.

Just this week I was almost caught out by an owl playing chicken with me, nearly ran over a massive rat the other morning that scuttled in front of me, as well as two pheasants strolling across the trail this morning. Add in the countless field mice, squirrels, rabbits and hares I see every morning and it makes for a very pleasant start to the day!

Haven't had a badger yet though, but having seen the damage to someone's car after hitting one, don't think I'd like to take my chance on a bike

Going down a steep hill, had a badger pop out the hedge, get 2/3rds of the way across, change its mind, do a u-turn and come back and just avoided being run over by me by about 2inches.
Certainly big enough to hoof me off the bike if I'd made contact.

Badgers are massive. I saw one foraging on campus when I was at uni. I was with two French students who were baffled by this "mythical" creature.
