Indeed it was f*****g fierce straight from the Arctic with no cover. I had 5 layers on plus Endura cycling jacket and I was just about luke warm. Riding the long bend between Oakington and Over must be like riding in Siberia. It was a blizzard and freezing. It was so cold with windchill that my eyeballs hurt and i wear cycling glasses! Fortunately half way along this stretch approaching Over a bright light appeared in my mirror so I cranked it up least I be scalped which meant I warmed up nicely. The light fell back and then with the wind on my tail, I rode with the wind. It was just under the bridge where the windmill is situated the light from behind started to get closer so I cranked it up again as I must have slowed. I literally flew past this guy floundering on a road bike with pack on his back along the long straight, went straight through the Swavesey lights without stopping as my Max Ds turn them to green as they are so bright then rode flat out all the way to St.Ives. As soon as I stopped in the car park to get off my bike I almost fell over the wind was that strong and bloody cold, freezing. The warmth I had generated quickly went and by the time I had got the bike into the car I was ready to change into a dry top and fleeces as my wet layers were now freezing me. I hate this frickin' country's climate. The weather looks like to continue like this for the rest of the week. Tommorrow morning is set to be -4C and a 20-30mph gusting NNE wind. Lovely.

The horse sh1t and mud on the GBW might be bad, but not that bad to make me take the road route. It's not such a problem for me at night any more as I have such bright lights I can see it well in advance. Some piles even had snow caps on this evening they were that big.
has the lights not been fitted yet?

Lights .....???? Which lights do you mean Kevin? I am referring to my bike lights. Who ever put in the catseyes that now go along the edge of the GBW must have been pi$$ed at the time as they are all over the place. One catseye was even put inward by about 12-18 inches as where it should have been placed was a massive pile of horse sh1t. That is the brain power of a contractor. A pile of poo is more intelligent than the contractors that were used to install these.

You do make me laugh mate

So another quality design and build installation by Cambridgeshire County Council?

Starlight Bike Ride to see the Busway in a whole new light

http://www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/CMSWebsite/Apps/News/Details.aspx?ref=948
Cambridgeshire cyclists are invited to take part in a unique night ride under a blanket of stars on Friday 12 April along the Busway.

The free bike ride will run between Cambridge and St Ives, with groups departing at either end at 10.30pm and meeting in the middle at Longstanton Park & Ride.
Cambridgeshire County Council has organised the bike ride to celebrate the installation of solar-powered stud lights along the northern section of the Busway maintenance track.
Cyclists who want to take part should arrive no later than 10.30pm either at the Golden Hind car park on Milton Road in Cambridge, or in front of the Town Hall on Market Hill in St Ives. Hot beverages and snacks will be available until midnight at the halfway point at Longstanton Park & Ride for cyclists to refuel.

Mike Davies, Cycling Projects Team Leader at Cambridgeshire County Council said: "The solar studs make it brighter and easier for those cycling at night between Cambridge and St Ives. This cycle ride will demonstrate what a great addition the lights are to the route, and will hopefully encourage more people to cycle even when it’s dark. Everyone is welcome to join in this free event."

Mike Davies obviously does not have enough real cycling issues to deal with. I hope he and his mates have got good lights on their bikes as they will need them to avoid all the huge piles of horsesh1t. Some are like a dirty protest spread over a large area of the path shotgun style. If it rains then it will be horsesh1t soup.

Well if anyone was on the guided busway on Sunday from about 830 - 1000 you might've seen me struggling along. I said morning or nodded to most people I passed anyway.... Quite an enjoyable ride actually.

Had my first proper go at the GBW yesterday with the family. I have been on it before but back before it was open and pre tarmac at the ST Ives end. Was quite pleased on the whole but can see there seems to be an issue with wildlife, huge piles of 'elephant dung' all over the place!
I think the solar lights may not be up to the job, but an excuse for a night ride

I averaged 24.2mph riding along it to work on saturday. Yeah the piles of horseshit are like mountain ranges at the moment. Some even have snow caps on them.
