an old pal of mine runs an antique phone business www.telephonelines.net Lots of bakelite and 70s stuff as well as really old phones and novelty items. He'd certainly know whether dial pulse phones still work - I'd have thought they would work on a proper phone line but maybe not if it's just a phone port on a router. Never actually bought anything off him, but he certainly knows his stuff and buys and sells worldwide

That's a good lead. I'm only five miles from there. You wouldn't have any further details, would you? Thanks.
No sorry. I just remember seeing a stall there a little while ago.
Also found these.

You do realise that the hot line was actually a teleprinter link, you probably need one of these:

This doesn't appear to be a 7B to me as it appears to have an overlap cam. But the name of the poster is familiar so I may be mistaken.

The sound, however, is music to my ears, even it the machine does look a little grubby.

If you've not been driven onto the next post by my boring waffle, may I mention that there was a handset for the 700 type phone that included a neon in the back so you could see when the phone ringing. Very dominatrixy

Sometimes we used to put them on 300 type phones but they had an added weight as they were to light to push down the hook.

Something to watch out for on all these phones is a noisy mic. These were originally carbon granule type, which can get noisy.

OK, you can wake up now.
