Probably me! Do you remember doing calculations on slide rules and using log tables? I was an expert. But my mind balks at the current replacements. I just have to accept the new reality.

Ok, but what was the problem. What was happening when you pressed the start/stop button

I suspect the issue may have to do with the proximity of the phone to the Edge. If you only want to use the device's odometer and speed, do you have to have the phone along? Or can it act as a stand alone miles and speed indicator?

It works without a phone

You may have pressed the on/off button (without switching it of) which locks the screen.

You don't need the phone connected to the computer at all for it to function, the Edge Explore 2 is completely stand alone. My phone drains battery really fast when the bluetooth is on, so mostly it's only ever briefly connected to the Explore after a ride to download the data.

For me, if I'm only recording a ride, when I set off I'll switch the unit on, then select the profile I want, depending on the bike I'm riding, so I have Mountain bike or Gravel bike. Then I'll press the button in the bottom right corner to start recording and off we go.

Thanks, next ride I'll try that. When I press the start button a screen comes up asking road, etc. selection but also showing 'Navigation' and 'Courses' and 'Group ride' and 'Location search' on the same screen, is that usual? Also, I did find that when I pressed the bottom right button the timer started, which was weird!

When I switch my Explore on I get the following screen which I think is the one you mean:

I then select the correct profile from the blue bar at the top, so Road or Off Road. Press one of the white arrows or swipe left or right to flick through the three standards profiles, Road, Off Road or Indoor. Then when the correct profile is showing in the blue bar, press the blue bar and this screen then pops up:

Once that screen is up I will then press the start button to record the ride and off I go. Maybe you have questions because you've not selected a profile to ride with?

These are random pictures I just quickly grabbed from the net, my screens are slightly different because I've configured them to suit me and I suspect yours will also show different things, but hopefully you get the idea.

Perfect thanks. Nice to know I am on the right road, so to speak.
One issue I have is that with the sun so bright, it is a bit difficult to actually see the screen to be sure it is showing what it is supposed to, so straddling the bike I have to crab walk to seek shade and then I have to squint at the screen to be sure.
