My Elite level Marathon runner Son would absolutely disagree with this blanket statement - I’m sure. And I wouldn’t think spends 15-20 hours a week Training: based on inaccurate input data from his arm band….

“likely” being VERY open ended.

Google it and you might just find it’s quite likely.😱

"Elite level Marathon runners" trained for years with chest-strap plus watch display HRMs
Many train with no HR data (ask the Kenyans!)

... and meanwhile I think the science shows chest-straps to be better than wrist-sensors.

So don't waste my time with your Appeals To Authority my friend! :-)

Be aware that 100% will hit the battery hard. I normally keep it around 30% and only turn it up a bit in direct sunlight.

Confirmation today: I had it on the brightest mode, rode for 3 1/2 hours (the boardwalk bridge I cross which has been in a poor state of repair for a while is finally barricaded off today for a complete rebuild (2 months) battery charge started off at 92% and was down to 30 % at the end of the ride.

I'm surprised you need the brightness set so high. Mine is set to 0% and is still easy readable in bright sunshine.
We're all different when it comes to eyesight I suppose.

Yeah but when elite and you run 2 hour 15 min marathons and 15-20 hours a week, about 90% is zone 2 anyway. Thus easy breathing which you can judge by breathing or talk test.

So where are you with it now?

Oh, I'm okay with dialing it back to net zero (not the socialist meaning) for regular use.
But I have decided not to rely on the navigating aspect of the device, I just could not keep glancing down at it without running into a truck. So, I'll use the Edge for mileage and a 6" x 10" cue sheet fastened to my aerobars for navigating. It's the system I use for randonneuring (Audax) and it works for me. It is undoubtedly over-kill using the Edge merely for mileage, but there it is. I've bought it so I'll use it.

It's a tool and everybody uses it as suits them.

But you should be able to get it to display distance to next turn so one glance and you'll know "it's imminent" or "few miles to go so no continual glancing. And set the alert beep so you can hear it (for me the default works, not too lough but I always hear it) so it warns you awhen a turn imminent so no need to be glancing down until there is something to glance at.
