Most Garmins support GPX, its a general file format for GPS maps. Here's a list of a few but just check the specs as there is a newer TCX format as well. https://support.garmin.com/support/...caseId={c358e0c0-e69d-11df-ea12-000000000000}

So I could download them to my 200, even though it has no maps?

Yes - you add the file via USB to the NEW folder when the 200 is switched off, when you switch on it converts it to use for navigation.

The 200 has a sort of a map - but really you're just following an arrow on the screen - it does work.

I have an Edge Touring with the 1-50000 OS and it's brilliant BUT I also have a 200 as a simple, fit to any bike without messing with wheel calibration, magnets etc gadget it's a great cycle computer.

I'm not sure if there's a limit to the number of way points a Edge 200 can accept, file size limit, etc but in theory as said it can take gpx files. Tcx files are smaller and contain more info, if you have the choice download them instead.

As rogbul says, I download the .gpx file of my choice to the pc. Then I plug in my Edge 200 and wait for a few seconds while the computer recognises it. Then in This PC I browse to the Garmin folder and expand it. Now look in Documents, Downloads, and your new .gpx should be sitting there. Send it or drag and drop to New Files (not Courses!) in the Garmin folder tree.
When you start your Edge 200 next time and go to courses, the new file will be there, but the odd bit is that when you select it for the first time the 200 has to process it. This only takes a few seconds. Now go out on your bike, having selected this new course. You will find yourself following a breadcrumb trail on the screen. For more Edge 200 hints you could do worse than go to http://velogps.com/garmin/garmin-edge-200/.
