Fitting a new cassette onto a new wheel and I was wondering if such parts need some sort of grease or lube at all? Or nothing as doesn't need it?

Would it be 'copper grease' or something similar or am I getting my lubes mixed up here?

Don't think it's needed but probably won't do any harm.

I don't think copper grease is correct for this application, I don't think you can use it between two different alloys. A smear of standard workshop grease wouldn't do any harm though.

Best practice is to wipe some grease on the freehub body then wipe most of it off leaving just a v thin coating.

The coating of grease is there to stop rust usually (depending upon if you have a steel or more exotic material freehub)

No no it's just a normal freehub and a normal 8 speed cassette. OK thanks chaps for the advice. I shall apply a small coating of grease methinks.

That would be a 'smear'.
