For some reason, Westmalle never seems to me to live up to its considerable reputation. As far as I'm concerned, Rochefort 8 is the ne plus ultra of strong brown ales. Pace Westvleteren, even :hello:

Although having said that, my tastebuds (or maybe the beers) seem to change subtly with time, so I have to keep going back to reassure myself about my assessments :hyper:

They just said on the radio that they have been ordered to raise the blockade. There's a lovely photo here!

Once you've got your laughing gear around a couple these, beer life will never be the same.

The only time I drank this I had my one and only alcoholic blackout. I was in a bar on a campsite in Belgium at 10.30 pm. The next thing I knew it was 2.00 am and I was in a two man tent with five other naked bodies. Regrettably, mostly men.

Definitely worth undertaking regular reassessment! I didn't care for Westmalle Dubbel when I first tried it, but it's grown on me.

Rochefort's beers are really superior stuff - I prefer the 10 to Westvletern 12.

So you passed through the stage when you can speak fluent Belgium, but your legs stop working without even noticing - excellent effort, Chris!

Not very exciting, though, is it?

Try drinking half a dozen glasses of the stuff. It gets me very excitable, just before I fall over.

Don't use the word BEER, it's an insult to good beer. This discussion is about cooking lager.

Belgian brewed Stella and Leffe is cooking lager?

What are you used to drinking? Unicorn's tears out of a virgin's silk slipper?

to be fair Leffe is a mass produced inbev product these days, a shadow of the product of yesteryear.
