I know they get a lot of stick round here, but for the past three times I have been there they have done some tweaks on my bikes.

The most recent one was a done as a good will gesture. for only10 pounds they adjusted the caliper disc brakes and cables and replaced a bottom bracket.

So have you had great service from Halford's? If so then post your tale it would be good to have a different stories from the norm.

I went in to get a headlight bulb for my car. I had no idea what I was looking for, but was approached by a polite young sales assistant, who located the right bulb in an instant.

The staff are very good in my local Halfords, been in a quite few times for various parts for the car/bike (very handy becauses its next door to where I work) and they do have some good offers from time to time.

Halfords on Old Kent Road is dogpoo. Absolutely shocking people work there (and i am not sensitive, they just took the piss). One guy was shouting because he had to take his lunch a bit later even though his boss had started later. No way to act as sales staff. I won't be buying in there again.

Halfords in Romford (my local) always decent though.

I've never had any problems with the service in Halfords. I have however had crap service from my local LBS and walked out of the second nearest one without buying anything because of the attitude of the guy working there.

My halfords (St. Austell) is good, but I wouldn't trust them with repairs. As sale staff they are fine, but everytime the have touched one of my bikes (carrera virtuoso) they either didn't fix the problem or created a new one.

As for my local bike shop. I went in with what I thought was a loose headset (complete noob at the time). They told me my headset was trashed and I would need to spend a few hundered pounds buying a new one and getting it fitted. Went to another bike shop, the guy did exactly the same checks (pressed both brakes and rocked the bike). Got out his allen key and undid my stem re tightend the bolt at the top and THEN did the stem bolts (I got it the wrong way round). He didn't charge me a penny.

Anyway, I digress. What I'm saying is LBS aren't good because they are local bike shops, they are good because of the service. I now don't feel I can go into the shop without getting ripped off.

Oh yeah, just to add to it, to have the just look at my bike(lbs) and tell me what was wrong after a crash, they charged 40 quid!
