In theory I'm leaving the house at 10am on Friday for a 50 mile ride around the edge of the Quantock Hills, Exmoor and then the Brendons...

I did, sort of. See my report in Your Ride today thread, which will be there presently. You rode very near me by the looks of it.

Yep looks like a good ride , I've tried to cycle up streatly hill on a 65" fixed wheel, only got as far as the big house half way up, had to walk the rest, but one day, I will do it.
All the best.

I have been building up my distance (maximum so far is 50).
Tomorrows forcast being so good I am doing Mickle Trafford (near Frodsham).....to Deeside (Chester).....then along the Wirral coast-line. Should be 40-50 miles.
I will pass through Parkgate which overlooks the Dee estuary AND........has a great chippy and 2 (yes 2) ice cream parlours selling home made stuff.
Shoould be so goooood

Re thread title:

Rough guess - I'd say yes. Laws of probability and all that.

Dave since you spend a bit of time exploring Wirral you should have a look at Wirral Cycling Group Wednesday rides - several coming up from Hooton Station (80p a day to park). You'd get to see lots of the back roads of Wirral, usually about 20miles to the lunch stop, check for a return ride to Hooton is on offer as some are one way, but generally to another Merseyrail station (do you have a pass?) Pace is slow at around10-12 average

Thanks for that.
Being a "born again" cyclist I am enjoying exploring lots of places/routes that are new to me. But yes.......the Wirral is a bit special.
By coincidence I nearly ended up in Hooton on Friday as........looking for the path back from Parkagate towards Burton......I ended up on the Wirral circular (route 56??) for 4 miles before realising I was heading "in-land" and had to double back.
