Hello all,

Last August I decided to do something about the belly and got on my Trek 800 Sport that had been sitting in my garage for 12 years pretty much unused! After a winter lay up I started up again in the spring and am up to journeys of about 40 miles at a time with my biggest being 60 so far.

So good news is that I'm nice and trim again bad news is that I've got really sucked into this hobby . Once I decided to start doing stuff to the bike other than pump up the tyres and oil the chain I got hooked!

Between this forum and You tube I've so far managed to strip the hubs, replace the bearings and axles, change the brakes, cables, adjusted the derailleurs, replaced pedals, bottom bracket, fitted lights, mudguards and a pannier rack. For what I've spent on parts and tools I reckon I could have got a new bike!. then there the new cycling gear - shorts, tops, jacket etc.....

Anyway, looking forward to sharing stories etc with you folks on here.

Stu

Hi Stu and welcome along to Cycle Chat, it is a really friendly place with lots of good advice as you have discovered.

There are a few of us dotted around the Edinburgh/ Fife area and we very occasionally meet up for a ride out, so keep an eye out in the CC rides and join us sometime.

Talking about that, we must get another one organised, as the last one a few weeks ago was good, but very very windy!!

 :hello:

Thanks for the welcome folks. Jane that would be worth a try - never cycled with others before - always solo. I agree re the weather - still waiting on summer arriving. I'm actually getting used to riding in the rain .

Well done you! It's not really that difficult once you get stuck in, and the self-satisfied, post-fettle glow you get when it all works is beyond words!

Hi Stu . Welcome .I'm in winchburgh , there are a few of us from west Lothian as well . I'd never cycled in a group b4 till I went out with the cc ecosse group and found it to be really enjoyable and very friendly ( they even act as nurse, mechanics , taxi drivers when needed , but that's a story for another time )
Jane good shout . So r u organising the nxt outing ;)
