Anyone had a gritter experience?

I went out for a ride this afternoon. Was a lovely day in Glasgow but very cold. Think it's to freeze up overnight so the gritters were out. I had one on a small country road come roaring towards me. I was doing a decent speed and could see what was coming, so just hoped for the best then I was splatted by a million small stones!

At least the road wasn't icy after that, although my bike did require a good wash!

I prefer riding with a snotty beak, cold fingers / toes, wet all over, in to a head wind & tottering down hills at 5mph in case I slide on the ice!

Not to mention being home before 3.30 cos it's dark!

I find gritters quite good. They stop gritting as they overtake and resume again once a gap has opened,
