Group Cycling Mileage Breaks

I've been cycling alone for a few months and looking at maybe joining a group ride... After much searching I've found there's a local weekly Sky Ride... However, the distance is 18 miles with a 45 minute break half way through.
Even though I'm fairly new to cycling I find this break slightly excessive as my longest break on my last 27 mile ride was two one minute breaks for a drink of water and a break from the saddle.

So, my question is? How often do you stop and at what millage point and am I being pensive for suggesting 45 minute break after nine miles is excessive.

Some of the entry level Sky rides are mainly based at leisure or occasional cyclists, and many may also include kids among their numbers. More a family biking outing rather than a taxing ride

The harder ones might perhaps be more appropriate for you? Otherwise, perhaps a CTC ride or even a club might be more appropriate given the level you ride / are seeking to ride at

Thank you. I'm not the best and at the moment mid to high 20's seems to be my limit so just trying to see whats out there. Most clubs close to me are eight mlies away so was trying something local

Give it a go then, see if it's for you. For a leisure ride like a sky ride, I don't think there's anything wrong with a social break at the half way point. If there's a larger number of riders, 45 minutes isn't excessive for all to have their tea and cake  there could be some quite little kids riding. Which ride are you looking at and where?

From Coventry to Bramcote and back. I usually do part of the route they are on but i bypass the main roads they take.
I'm trying to get myself up to my first 50 miler but unsure if i should turn up in full cycle gear for this ride...lol

It's entirely up to you what you wear

Do you have a link to the ride?

Tbh if your ambitions are club runs, a sky ride isn't really going to prepare you for one. They are a totally different type of group ride. In my experience, They are pretty slow, stop start etc. Big gaps between riders, no drafting etc

If this one, you'll have small kids potentially, 7-10 mph, nearly 3 hours to do 18 miles. I fear you'll be bored and frustrated if you are doing 30 miles at roadbike pace with no stops

The club maybe 8 miles away name wise, but it will have many members close to you. The more cyclist you meet the more chance you have of finding like minded cyclist. Where are you?

I'm in Coventry. Just on the outskirts close to the countryside

KLWNBUG usually start at ten and stop for a break some time between noon and one, so after between twelve and thirty five miles depending on the terrain and who's turned up. The stop is usually at least fifty minutes and ninety has happened when it's a particularly nice pub and the weather's not encouraging the restart.

Roadies in general are disciplined on stops, so it seems to me you are ideal road club material.

The extra 16 miles to and from may be too much at the moment, so I suggest you do a club ride car-assisted - take the bike in the car to the start point.

There will almost certainly be other members doing the same, and in any case no one gives a stuff how you get there.

Using the car to enable you to keep the ride pace and distance shows that, while being new, you have had the common sense to think about the ride in advance.

Riding alone I stop only as long as it takes to eat/take photos etc. Group stops are significantly longer because people like to chat - a group ride isn't only a bike ride.

Also, if there's a need to queue, a group takes longer to get served.
