Yes, tragic as it is, my reading of this suggests to me that it could well have happened even if the driver had been accompanied.
Indeed. From the story (if we believe it!)...My sympathies for the cyclists family.
However - the cyclist was on the wrong side of the road, and even if everything else was above board it would, sadly, still have happened. Tragic I think.
