Hanging around in A&E is boring, what else would you do but take photos of the injured party??
When we got there after a call from eldest boy's friend to say he'd come off a bike, second thing I did was whip the phone out to capture the moment. First thing was obviously to give him a quick once over and make sure he was ok-ish. Third thing was to tell him what a pillock he was!

Ah c'mon, it's only a flesh wound, nobody has asked whether his bike is ok yet, is it?;) Seriously though, I hope the surgeon does a good job and everything heals fine.

Not being particularly squeamish, I had a good look. I can't understand how he did it though unless he landed on something sharp?

Hope the doctor does a good job and it heals well.

Confession time. Obviously I wouldn't do this in real life, but the more I look at the photo, the more I want to stick my finger in there to see how deep it is. Which is why I never pursued a career in medicine.
You sound like a perfect medical student candidate! Poking around in holes goes with the territory.

He was apparently bunny hopping up a kerb, lost his balance, put his hand out and landed hand first onto some kind of low fence. He wasn't wearing gloves, but says he will do in future!

Just dropped him off at the hospital, he feels very sad this morning.

Ha ha! When I went to pick him up, his passer by rescuers looked a bit shocked when I asked if his bike was ok! It is! Hurrah!

Hope all goes well today and that he feels much better once it's all over.

Ouch.

My mate did something similar with his little finger playing rugby. Caught the ball, but it went through his hands, almost ripping off his little finger. All's OK now though. Looked a mess at the time.

That should heal okay as long as there are no infections, but I am afraid he will suffer a bit with numbness and pins&needles for a long time.
I did something similar removing a cutting head that was jammed on a machine spindle, I did not have gloves on either.
I said the F word a lot too!

I too did something similar with my middle finger, right hand when I tried to stop a runaway dog and the lead ripped through my hand and the metal bit caught. Ouchie. I could see the bone and everything.

Its fine now but the sensation is a tad odd. I feel that your OH might have a tingly bit for ever more.

Sara_H: You've had a bad accident and your hand is badly cut up, love! Can I borrow your phone?
OH (in pain): Why don't you use your own phone to call an ambulance?
Sara_H: I'm not calling an ambulance! Your phone's got more Megapixels on the camera!

GWS!!

"Honey!"
"Yes"
"Don't panic, but I've had an accident and need you to take me to A&E. Look ..."
"OMG!!!! Quick, get the camera, I'll have to post this on CycleChat!"
"Eh? What? Are you serious?"
"Yes. Hurry up - the sooner we get it uploaded the quicker I can get you to A&E"
Priorities and all that!!
