The two week cold has on my estimation turned into the beginnings of a chest infection (third this year)- got that oh so familiar razor blade feeling in my chest- reluctantly spent four days off the bike last week and today brought myself a week's travelcard..grumble, grumble:angry:;)

Loaded up with Ibuprofen, paracetomol - lozenge things and co-codamol is stashed at home for the throat should it get worse.

So will be watching the cyclists zip past on their way to work whilst I sit stewing on the bus like a human sardine with miserable commuters around me and hoping dear God I can get better and stay better this time! Health has been rubbishly shoddy this year! My work's sick pay is a pittance and has run out so just need to get in though, so that I don't have my pay docked should probably be off though.

So will be scanning the pages and living vicariously through you lot who are still commuting strong:smile:

I can sympathize with you I seem to have had more infections this year . must be something to do with the damp weather, the kids don t help bringing all and sundry home with them. Unfortunatley I don t have any other travel options so I have to use the bike.

ld - I don't even have kids to blame- though take it easy as sometimes when cycling whilst unwell it can make things worse - I personally blame work- it's been highly difficult and quite stressful at times.

Though a 40 minute commute not turns into a 1hr 45- 2 hr 15 commute...grumble

Any consolation but its probably not a bad week to be off the bike. Bad weather and bad driving seem to be the order of the day.

A fair few years ago I had a period where I never seemed to be well, but this coincided with Bolleta's start at nursery. Why do they have to build their own immune systems by testing out the effects on yours?

oh dear, sorry to hear that TT. Having to mingle with all those sorry, sad, grey faces on the bus.. refusing to open windows to let any fresh air to circulate.. the windows steaming up, dripping with condensation... nice.... not!

My sympathies girl, get well soon .... and get back out there....

Keep yer pecker up smasher, you'll be back on the bike soon, fully rested and chomping at the bit...unlike all us cold soggy, miserable, cold, damp, cold, sweaty, demotivated, dark, cold (did I mention cold) lot.

Far better to be sitting on a warm bus (Hmmmmm waaaarmmm bussssss) spreading all your germs to the rest of the suits....all the less for you to avoid when you get back on the bike.

I plan to put in a big week on Chitty this week (been avoiding her a bit of late) so, will do so on your behalf!!

Hang on.

Your feeling that unwell, cannot cycle, but are still going to work!? There are in-patients taking less medication!

Sorry, but if I was feeling so ill that I couldnt cycle to work, I wouldnt go. Take a week off under the Duvet. You know you want to!

Thanks for the kind replies.

Bongman - the problem is that I won't get any pay as our sick pay entitlement is appallingly low for the first year of service and a week off (though I sorely need it) would mean a massive dent in the salary and SSP only kicks in after the third day off.

Just come back from lunch, wasn't very hungry - I know something is not good as I usually eat two lunches -lol and my colleague said I was staring at his plate of food not looking as if I was present in mind or body...

a duvet week would be fantastic!

Ahh I see.

No choice then! You'll have to take the rest of the week off!

Edit : Can you get a refund on that Travelcard!?

Probably yes - but employers flipped out the other week when I was sick two wednesdays ago and came in on Thursday though still peaky - it hasn't really cleared up since then.

I'll head home tonight and go straight to bed - no need to worry about fuelling up for the commute in the morning --ah sigh makes me sad!
