Imagine my horror, when after cooking the wonderful looking fine green beans, purchased earlier, from one of the main 6 UK supermarkets, I noticed that they were from Guatemala!
Whilst I have no issues with farmers in Guatemala, and perhaps, I feel good with the fact that they have found a good export route, and good luck to them with the money they made from me, but I really hurt at the climate miles I have just cost the global environment. As I live in one of the areas in England which has many acres of farmland, and many growers of fine green beans are local to me, i am saddened that I didn't take the opportunity to check the origin of these beans ( as I normally do - no, really, I do!).
This means that thhe winter will be spent, cycling even more than I planned, to offset this globally costly mistake.
