That's me doing the cycling luge at Balham...
I almost managed to stay upright after the handlebar snapped - but I instinctively let go of the right side of the bar and it swung into my front wheel (thanks to the brake cable) and that's what took me down. It all happened so quickly, but I managed a reasonable dismount given the circumstances. With hindsight I should have kept hold of the dangling aluminium, but I was more afraid of face planting at the time.
Annoyingly, it ruined the front wheel (one broken bladed spoke, two seriously bent), has compromied the sidewall of the front tyre, scuffed my jacket, and left me with road rash and mild bruising.
Thanks to Gaz for stopping to check I was OK.
As you can see, my trusty brass bell is fine.
