Erks! Not good at all & very little chance of holding it when they go like that . Hope the guy is as okay as he sounds in the video & any scrapes, cuts, bruises etc. heal quickly.

This is why I change ally handle bars when the manufactures warranty period is out.

Broke my stem in 2008 on my hurricane. No fall though, perhaps because the cables held it all together, and there's so little force on recumbent handlebars:

Ouch!

However, it could have been so much worse.

When I get a chance tomorrow I'll post my own fall from tonight. Only thing that got hut though was my pride!

Seems like a day for incidents..

That's me doing the cycling luge at Balham...

I almost managed to stay upright after the handlebar snapped - but I instinctively let go of the right side of the bar and it swung into my front wheel (thanks to the brake cable) and that's what took me down. It all happened so quickly, but I managed a reasonable dismount given the circumstances. With hindsight I should have kept hold of the dangling aluminium, but I was more afraid of face planting at the time.

Annoyingly, it ruined the front wheel (one broken bladed spoke, two seriously bent), has compromied the sidewall of the front tyre, scuffed my jacket, and left me with road rash and mild bruising.

Thanks to Gaz for stopping to check I was OK.

As you can see, my trusty brass bell is fine.

Argh - well saved - glad to hear you live to tell the tale-shame about the bike though. Rest up 'Man Mountain' and hope you don't feel it too much tommorow.
