What annoys me is that the developers were given additional funding to raise the path to such a level that it wouldn't flood. They obviously haven't done that.

No they were only meant to raise some parts, which they did, we were however told that the path would be flooded for a number of days a year - can't remember or find the exact figure - but i'm pretty sure we've already passed it due to the weather in April/May when it was flooded.
There was some issue with raising the whole cycle track - they thought it would affect the floodplain or some other twaddle...

well that picture is he worse I have ever seen it.

What I really like is how the bus way Twitter feed goes on about it being a 'maintenance' track, and yet the signs say public bridleway, and if its a maintenance track why take the money from Sustrans to finish off the tarmacking? .

All in all, a complete disaster, one day I think the busway will flood it that picture is anything to go by....

News just in, this is what the flooding looks like:

Love that kick in the teeth, "Bus are services unaffected".

OMG you can't even see the fence on the left which must be 3-4 feet high!

I think it will be flooded all winter as there is NO way all that water is going to drain or evaporate before summer in time for more torrential down pours. The GBW from Swavesey to St Ives is a total cock-up and those at Cambridgeshire County Council who over saw it should lose their jobs.

Unfortunately for me it is back to driving the whole way, the dreaded A14, leaving before I would need to if cycling. It will also cost a fortune in extra fuel. Maybe I should send my fuel receipts to Cambridgeshire County Council for re-imbursement?

Such a shame for a facility like this to be so badly affected by the weather, hope it gets sorted but it's going to take some big decisions by those in charge :headshake:

In a 2011 document that is online it was estimated to be 29 days of the year under water, only the lowest point was raised to be in line with this and 15 days for the actual track....has that ever been a problem for the buses?

AFAIK the buses have never had a problem (well not with flooding) 29 days a year is a ridculously high number though - that's basically a month where people can't commute by bike on the busway. Imagine telling your employer that you wouldn't be at work for a month. The part they did raise is flooded anyway now!

Sounds a bit crap, this guided bus way thing. Still, at least it was cheap, eh?

Yes cheap. The iditos at CCC couldn't even make sure what was delivered was suitable or fit for purpose. It's fine as long as it doesn't rain which in the UK is a bit of a problem. Unbelievable.

Why not go by road via Fenstanton, doesn't really add much in the scheme of things (3 miles) ?
