It's still a wonderful game.

Yes, it can be.

But, to be honest, I found that the times it lived up to my expectations were rare. Maybe my expectations are different now. Or maybe the game has changed. I'm not going to offer guesses as to which. All I know is that I don't watch it nearly as much as I used to.

I have lost a lot of interest in football over the last few years, (not all to do with my team being crap )
I see lads at work struggling to pay bills but still managing to find money to go and watch City or United every week, those players are on 100,000+ and those poor saps are paying their wages
Are we related ? You look familiar.

My team Forres Mechanics is top of the Highland League. If you follow non league and minor footbal it is much better and genuine rather than all the histrionics in the pro game although I do have a lot of respect for the likes of Neil Warnock the manager of QP Rwho seems like a genuine football man and also Norwich and Swansea are doing well and they seem to be run on proper business like principles and play the game the right way. I'm off to watch Gillette Soccer Special and Match of the Day later on tonight.

I agree that football has a lot of faults but it is still the best game in the world.

As I type this I've got BBC sport open on another tab hoping my team can come back from 1 down. It's either in you or it isn't and if it is I don't think you can ever really let it go.

I gave up watching professional football years ago, quite frankly I became fed up with watching overpaid primadonas ponce around a football field and then whinge about not being paid enough!

I now referee the game at grass roots level and when I get the chance to watch a game I'll go and watch a local saturday league match where the guys play because they enjoy it and not because they are getting paid.

I applaud you for reffing grass roots - 3 members of my family do this (from 3 generations!) and I know how challenging (and rewarding) it can be. But I really don't recognise your description of overpaid primadonas. I think it's an over generalisation and a popular misconception if you don't mind me saying. Go and stand on the terrace at Edgar Street and find me an overpaid primadona. I've seen tackles in Premier league games so hard that I don't think you could call it poncing around. Sorry, just can't see it.
