Is that the right way to do it, most people use snow.

Us West Londoners have got off lightly so far. Hardly any snow overnight, so I'll be on the bike again today.
Still rather cycle slowly than suffer on public transport and stuck in traffic jams.

Quite enjoyed riding in the falling snow last night, looked lovely as I sped home.

Well, our turn to join in the fun here in Mid Sussex, though only a few inches so far: had sleet gradually turning to real snow for 24 hours now. Main roads are all slushy and I don't care to cycle through that and be sprayed by cars, so out with Shanks's Pony! I only have 2 miles. I quite enjoy the satisfying crunch of fresh snow underfoot, and a chance to try out my new walking boots in snow for the first time.

Up to about 8" now in Derby. Buses struggling. Seen one rear-ender accident already on the way in to work.

Amazingly, most car drivers I saw at 7am were driving slowly, with lights on and leaving sensible distances beween them and the next vehicle.

Maybe it should snow more often?

If it really does become more of a regular occurrence, and if I can really be convinced that an MTB with knobblies really will grip on the stuff, I might consider getting myself a cheap one just for this (never owned an MTB up till now). My road bike is useless in lying snow. Advice?

It's certainly more then I have ever seen. It continued to snow overnight, and it is still snowing.. we have about a foot and a half so far.
We are effectively snowed in.

I've got a couple of MTB's Pete and they're snugly wrapped up under blankets in the shed! Others will adopt the MTFU attitude, but I'm sure the overworked casualty departments of hospitals would prefer they didn't on the whole.

Bus for me until things improve.

I feel like I could... TAKE ON THE WORLD!!
Im 'mad' apparently, especially as I have a car I could have used, maybe they are right but I enjoyed it.

Took it slow on any hills and bits I couldn't see tarmac and had a nice ride, got a couple of nice pictures of the frozen and snowed on canal for my extreme commuting album

We had a good six inches overnight (Phwoar!) which on top of what we already had is more than we have had for about 25-30 years. I recall the last time because I had to walk the five miles home from Mrs. KH's house to mine because her father wouldn't let me stay the night. I did that every night for more or less ten days. No wonder my hips and knees are shot now.
