Seems some despicable, dishonest, halfwitted excrement-for-brains excuse for homo sapiens has tried (unsuccessfully) to make a purchase using my card details. Had a call from my issuer asking me to confirm a transaction was genuine. At the time it was attempted, old Attrick was tucked up in his cosy pit. How the chuff did this retarded amoeba come by my details anyway?

Mind you, I am decidedly delighted that my CC company picked it up before the transaction went through.

Oh well, it looks as though the piggy bank will have to be smashed to pay for my Christmas jam butties.

Nice to hear they stopped the transaction before it happened.

Have you used your credit card recently for an online purchase, where you dont normally purchase from?

A while back, some dodgy petrol station had got my Maestro card details and were using it to buy credit for mobile phones.

I saw the items on my bank statement and contacted the bank, who gave me a refund!

I had mine refused a few weeks back in Tesco, had to go to customer services while they got in touch with the CC company.
Turned out they were suspicious about a £10 transaction to Halfords online, which was genuine, all sorted out in 5 minutes.

I've also had this happened twice and been very impressed with the CC people.

Once they phoned me in Spain to query a transaction - which I had made myself - on a mobile at their expense.

They said sorry - we always like to check. So thanks (to Natwest Mastercard)

My bank stopped mine when I was trying to use it in South America. Three weeks unable to use my card when I needed it most. Got home to messages on my answer phone saying suspicious attempted transactions had been picked up by the fraud section. I always call them now if I am going overseas so it doesn't happen again.

I've had this happen twice, both time picked up straight away by the card company. As Gerry says, most details are stolen by rogue shop assistants rather than any internet hacking.

It's not even that hard. There's plenty of technology which can steal it easily. Petrol Stations seem to be the main targets for these problems.

You've prompted me to check my account, I think someone has broken into it as there's not a lot there.

Shall we post you some butties Gerry? Blackcurrant jam here.

It gets me right here when I witness the touching generosity of you chaps and chapesses.

Thanks Longers, but I've just plucked and dressed next door's cat. It isn't very big, but it'll do for Christmas lunch and soup for boxing day.

They would be very disappointed if they broke into mine, there's always sod all in it. So far I've been lucky, no problems yet. Earlier on this year I used a very big chunk of my redundancy to reduce the amount on my credit card and HSBC was right on it, they wouldn't let the transaction through until they had checked with me it was genuine

I was a victim of ID fraud - never did find out how it happened but it was shocking how much they knew about me (basically everything). 'They' were money laundering and all sorts in my name - eventually they cleaned me out of everything I had within 48 hours. Took ages to sort out and I was accused of involvement!

Got all the cash back in the end but I am now on some ID theft register for life. I heard that about 30% of such victims don't get all their money back from the banks - shocking!
