Is it possible to do this cycle route on a trike? ICE RS or are there any off road bits that need bypassing?

Any cues?

Cheers

I did the trip on a Street Machine with no issues

Did it in August, you shouldn't have a problem. If I remember correctly there is a shared path near Carlisle, a stretch of dirt track near Corbridge and the odd bollard or two near Wallsend as well as some shared paths. There may also be the odd burnt out car in Wallsend as well .

I did the bit from Seascale past Sellafield on my Sprint this summer.
I got a bit sand blasted due the wind across the beach, but only bogged down once in the sand as most of the worst section have mats on them.

Make sure you have some really low gears though, some of the inclined over the moors are very steep. Also most places on the tourist side of things will look after your trike and kit if you only ask them. We did it several years ago before my back went and went around various places on route which was great. There a travelogue of mine on here called 'lello bike, 'nother 'lello bike where we did the entire route end to end, faithfully.

To cycle the wall you really have to stick to the Military road (b6318). However this can be fast and busy in places. I rode this route a few times but never on a recumbent, I nipped off at several central sections to walk with the bike beside the actual wall. I supppose it depends if you really want to see the wall, how much time you have available for detours and your confidence while riding on busy roads. Riding this route on a trike would actually be safer than a bicycle, but not for the faint hearted.
I rode the Newcastle to Carter Bar and back in a day on a trike.. A696 /A68 also fast and busy in places. the cars gave me a more than wide berth, something they don't always do while riding an upright.

This is a useful site

When I did this it was February, and weather ws not brilliant, but OK

I stopped at the Ship Hotel at Allonby with a fairly poor weather forecast that deteriorated during the evening

Then a BBC film crew arrived!

They were there to use it as a base record the oncoming storm, along with the consequent flooding, gales and general mayhem or disaster as the sea wall failed, roads were swept away etc

Spent a brilliant evening in the bar, slept through a fairly windy night and woke to one of those fine clear and sharp mornings that only really occur after a storm

BBC had gone home

Thanks again for the feedback, just stared read SatNav's blog its really good and getting me fired up.. The last C2C I did was in a kayak, across Scotland... so a few changes to consider. Main one is whether to go the whole hog logistically dropping the bike at the start and driving to the end public transport back to start it all adds time to the whole trip but adds to commitment! The joys of solo!!

Maybe I'll have to look into the round route option. The transporting either end would burn a couple of days anyway!!

On a trike I'd also check you fit through the narrow gates on the Sellafield-Beckermet section. I think you'd fit (I can probably take a tape measure to one one day if really needed as I often commute along that bit; hough not at the moment as the underpass next to Sellafield at the start of that bit is currently submerged under a mixture of water, mud and cow muck xx( so I'm using the commuter's alternative which is to stick to the main road up the hill and turn left through the cyclists route at the first roundabout opposite Yottenfews Lane.

The narrow gates on the Sellafield-Beckermet section where fine on my Sprint last summer. I had a couple of inches to spare.
If I remember correctly the narrowest section was going under the railway line just before Sellafield. But I still got through without to much trouble.
