Because they are big and evil and put your front forks on back to front.

.... Oh yes, and they kill cute little puppies and kittens too.

I agree with all of the above...the bike I bought from them was back with them in the shop more than I rode it because of faulty set-ups/repairs!

I bought a Boardman 29er pro a few months ago, it was built & set up fine. A couple of adjustments were done in the shop when I collected it to the bars and brake positions, a matter of personal preference.

I've bought and built 4 boardmans from Halfords, I just love the smooth frames and prices.
I always maintain them myself, though I had reason a couple of weeks back to take my Team Hyrid in because the left
hand crank bolt had fallen out and I did not want to pay for a new bolt.
Halfords fitted a bolt while I waited - Oh My God- he tightened the bolt so tight I could not turn the crank :banghead:
I took it home and rectified it myself, at least I didn't pay for the bolt!

Yes, it's official. When Halfords bike shop staff were polled recently some listed strangling small animals, masturbating and putting forks on backwards amongst their hobbies. Do not buy from these cruel depraved people.

They also drink milk straight out of the bottle and then, to add jnsult to injury, don't put the lid back on and most certainly DON'T put it back in the fridge!!

Hi all, some opinions needed please. I'm looking to buy a 29" mountain bike, and have seen this lovely looking and good spec Boardman in Halfords, which is the problem - HALFORDS! This may sound snobby but I don't see them as a proper bike shop, I think their staff are all kids, and have just had a terrible helping of customer service with them just this week over fitting my car stereo! What do people think of buying a £1k bike from them? The problem is that this bike is only available through them, and I really like the bike! Any thoughts and comments would be appreciated, thank you.
The vast majority of Boardmans are set up fine in store. At one time not every store was allowed to sell the Pro models. I had to get mine from Guildford. Best setup, out the door of any shop, I've ever had. Nothing, not one thing, needed sorting on it.

Why not just support your local independent bike shop? Don't give Halfords your money - they don't deserve it.
Is your LBS open on Bank Holidays?
Is it open at 19:45 on a week day evening?
Is it open seven days a week?
Does it offer next day click'n'collect from a range of 10,000's of cycling components?
Does it offer price match on everything and give you seven days to find that match?
Does it let you return goods to a store other than the one you bought them from if that suits you better?
et cetera

Because if it doesn't, they don't deserve your money.

Now sure, an uniformed, or naive, or ignorant, or unassertive consumer can get ripped of, or receive poor service in/from Halfords. But they'll get that in many an LBS too.

I bought a TDF from Halfords, rode it for three weeks and took it back, said I didn't like it.
I get good discount too

Money back no questions asked - pro's and cons

I brought a boardman team comp from Halfords burgess hill in early may when I got it home I took it down the road and the gears weren't ride so I took it back they said it was the cassette and chain needed replacement I got that replaced and after the third ride the chain parted where it had been joined and I went over the handle bars bending the handle bars and left hand sti shifter and after 21/2 weeks of phone calls to customer service they have agreed to replace the bike but im not having it built there getting it in the box :bicycle:
