Had a bit of an unusual one tonight on the way home.
I've had my Boardman Hybrid Comp for a few weeks now and it's a cracking ride but had a rear shifter failure tonight. Was changing down for a rab not far from work, chain was in the middle of the cassette so not near the limits of the shifter, and as I was shifting the large thumb trigger just went, bit of a ccrunch and then nothing but a really loose feleling. Coulld shift up but not down.
Handy for me I wasn't far from work which is just round the corner from the Blackpool branch so turned round and took it into the store. Told them what had happened and was expecting to have to book it in and get it done at some point next week. To my surprise Jay, who was dealing with me, took the bike he was working on off the stand, put mine on and then went to see if they had a shifter in stock. Bad news was they didn't and they wouldn't be getting any more in until the end of April.
Jay then had a look on the stock computer and said we've got an X7 shifter vvin, here we go its an upgrade to the spec how much is this going to cost me, none of that at all. "It's an upgrade to what you've got, do you want me to fit it now for you under warranty?"
Had a good chat about bikes while he fitted the new shifter, He seemed like a genuinely knowledgeable bloke and 20 minutes later I was back on my way, upgraded shifter and all.
All in all a good experience.
