this is not a reason to slate Halfords. Seems to me they've done everything they can, you still got your discount and kept your old bike, which means you can fleabay it and get some money back. Disappointing yes, but its not like they haven't tried!
I'm not really suggesting that Halfords have done anything wrong. Clearly they have made me a good offer. I'm just having a little winge about my disappointment. Maybe that would have been clearer if I had festooned my original post with smiley emoticons!

Sell on e-bay, gumtree, carboot sale the old bike and use the honoured discount for the new! Problem solved and get some money in the process which further increases the discount if you don't spend it.

I can't begin to imagine how the OP would react if they found themselves waiting five months and counting to ride their new bike due to a SRAM brake recall without so much as an apology. A position I am currently in.

Halfords acted responsibly and in the best interest of the customer. That's something to be rejoiced in a time of poor customer service from large companies..

Sorry but I have bugger all sympathy for someone treated decently by a company after what I'm going through. You don't know the meaning of disappointed as halfords have not taken your money and not provided goods as in my case.

Personally I am suspect of the whole 'discount' malarkey. You see a sign that says 10% off or 50% or 60% yet the 100% price is a price that has been made up and may bear no resemblance to the real value of the item at all. Much like selling second hand when you know that people will want to pay less than the asking price so you price the item to allow for this.
Buying a 'bargain' only works when you know what the item is really worth.
In this instance the discount is something like £70 isn't it (?) would the OP pay £70 to have his lusted after bike prepped and fitted by a competent mechanic with free adjustments for a year and delivered this afternoon?
