Not sure if anyone else has noticed this. Ive been waiting for my employers to sort out my cycle to work voucher (6 weeks and counting)! Since I requested it the Boardman Road Comp has gone up from £800 to £850 and now its £900! Surely bike prices should be going down over time? I know its not really a discussion but sometimes you just need an outlet to vent!

It'll be the standard Halfrauds price rise just before their Autumn "sale" that isn't. Standard part of their business model...

As GazK said, it'll shortly be down again, as a 'sale'. Either way,I would suggest that if you went in with your voucher and said 'Oh... when I applied for these it was 800' you will probably get it for that anyway after some persuasion. Sandra6 might know more if she reads this as she works for Halfords - unless it breaches company secrets for her to comment!

I do wonder if I could get a disciplinary for some of the comments I make about work, but hey ho.
Prices go up and down all year in Halfords. I haven't actually noticed that many going up just lately, some sales have ended others have started. There is always something being reduced though.
We've stopped pushing road bikes (the tdf has disappeared) and it's bmx's being promoted now, getting ready for xmas purchases.
It is worth mentioning that the price was lower when you first applied for the c2w though, they should honour the original price for you. Best not to say I said so though.

when i was looking at getting a boardman it was 650, then went to 800 droped to 600 then up to 700 then eventually 800 again, they always change there prices so they can call them a discount. think theyve got a new chief exec now so dont know if itll change. if decathlon started putting stores everywhere they would soon go out of business imho, they do the best value bikes around

Hopefully the Halfords prices go higher with the result of sending the bike buying public to real bike stores.
The Boardman brand deserves more then Halfords.

when they started out they didnt have a choice, there in the usa now so if they make it big i can see them leaving halfords, the only reason there still there is the cycle to work scheme market which give boardman the money to fullfill his dreams of having a tdf team

As long as I breathe, I attack.
With regards to C2W is it not about time that the maxiumum spend of £1k was raised? its been that amount for at least 4 years afaik and even with the "low" inflation bike prices are generally on the rise or you get less spec for your money .

Thanks for all your replies, I work in sales so im sure i'll be able to negotiate something otherwise it means im not very good at my job!

The only reason im going through Halfords is because of cycle to work. The staff ive dealt with so far have been really friendly but as a beginner I need lots of advice and all the anwers I get seem generic.

Out of interest does anyone know if there is there usually a sale this time of year?

this happened to me, my hybrid comp was £499, by the time my voucher came through it had gone up to £550. I told the guy in the store I'd tried to reserve it when I first applied for C2W but was told I couldn't (little white lie there).

The guy called head office and they authorised the store to knock the bike down to it's original price, and then he gave me another 10% off for the hassle!

There are a number of LBS's which take Halfords vouchers - my one C2W bike was bought through my LBS in this way.

Halfords prices go up and down - it is good however if they offer discounted bikes for C2W, not all retailers will

Halfords are always having a sale, they just change the products that are in the sale.
They usually have good offers in the run up to xmas though, starting maybe next month. I will let you know when I get any intel. ;)
FWIW cycle accessories in store are on 3 for 2 but online have 20% off. And a lot of the stuff is cheaper to start with on line, no idea why though.

Voucher finally came through today so I may try Raging squirrels approach at the weekend. Looking into the C2W scheme im on I could go elsewhere though I get an additional 15% discount at Halfords from my employer so providing I get someone who knows what they are doing it'll be worth it.

Thank you Sandra6 ive looked at the online accessories offer and priced up the ones I want, I just home there is no clause which means I cannot take advantage of the discount combined with C2W.

I don't see why not Dave. Just ask them in store to do an online collect for you, they should be able to modify the order no problems.
