I hate Halloween, wtf is it all about... another money making opportunity for purveyors of tat? Or a wholesome family festival?

Me, I hate it, but then I'm a miserable fecker.

I'm with you FF, I hate it. It's just another money making scheme from the retailers. Already shelled out for two costumes for the kids, sweets and a "loot" bucket for daughter #2.

Plus the kids end up with enough sweets to last them about 6 months.

Pumpkins are a lot easier than turnips and swedes, smell nicer when the lid singes, and their branes taste better

Two of my immediate family and one family cat were born on Hallow'een, so it's taken on a different significance for me. I like pumpkins, but the commercialisation of it all really gets on my wick.

It's a bit of fun for the kids. Stop being such grumpy buggers.

I love all the spooky stuff, ghost stories, pumpkin lanterns etc.

What I loath is the 'trick or treat' and assorted Americanised aspects that have taken what should be a simple tradition of welcoming in the dark of winter and made it about consumption and acquisition.

I switch all our outdoor sensor lights off to make it more of a challenge for people to get to our front door

If they make it, they might be lucky enough to receive a healthy snack, such as an apple, as a treat. If they're unlucky, Chuffy will answer the door

Some b*stards stole a plant pot, including plants, from outside my front door as a "trick" one year. I wasn't even in...

Yep me also don't like it at all, yet another miserable bugger!

BTW as a relative newbie I'm disappointed to note that there is note that the social groups section of this forum lacks a Grumpy Old Men group, surely that should be remedied.
