Third time this year for me. This is the only sportive I've done to date.
Well organised this year, good humoured, friendly bunch and great support from the locals.
Tremendous scenery.
The two hills killed me this year though!

I haven't done it but would like to as it does through the area I grew up in (between Abergavenny and Blaenavon). Maybe next year.

I really enjoyed it, actually. Good weather, and less manic than Ride London. Caerphilly Mountain was a trial!

Unusually for a sportive, there were some racing elements - prizes for the fastest club up the Tumble, and fastest club overall. Plus the pro race was also called Velothon so you can see how it gets confused.

There aren't many closed-road sportives, so it does offer something different to the usual fare. I'll probably do it again at some point.

I've done it 3 times.It was the best organised its been this year.
It is expensive, & being run by the Ironman brand, all out to part you from your cash, but to cycle on closed roads is IMHO worth it at least once.
There were some pretty nasty crashes this year from people who were treating it as an all out race, without necessarily having the ability or experience to do so but I guess that happens in all things.

That's a bit of a legal grey area. Cycle racing on the public highway is strictly controlled by Act of Parliament with limits on the number of participants among other requirements. Describing a mass start event as a race and offering prizes for the fastest is almost certainly illegal unless it complies fully with the relevant act, which a sportife wouldn't because of the number of riders involved alone.

It seems unlikely that the organisers of such a large event didn't take legal advice...
it was closed roads - so the parliment act was covered
