Enjoyed Eddi Reader’s Big Burns Show on the internet this evening, a very decent line up. Tempted to visit Dumfries next year for the actual live show. Doubt it would stretch to KT Tunstall though.

McSweens Haggis is properly traditional and also widely available in supermarkets. They were originally a butchers shop in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, now they have a dedicated plant in Loanhead, just outside Edinburgh. Both their normal haggis and their vegetarian version are very acceptable.

That's the haggis maker we get here in HK.

I'm not a fan of offal generally but I really like haggis, combo with the oats and spices / herbs me thinks..it has a slight balck pudding texture / taste to it, which I also like. The son & I shared one earlier this month, twas very nice.
I bought the veggie one last week in the reduced section. I used to have the occassional offal haggis, but I gave lungs, goolies etc up a while ago.:stop:

Address to a Haggis

‘Address to a Haggis’ is traditionally recited on Burns Night after the haggis has been brought in and set on the table.

Fair fa’ your honest, sonsie face,
Great Chieftan o’ the Puddin-race!
Aboon them a’ ye tak your place,
Painch, tripe or thairm:

Weel are ye wordy o’ a grace
As lang’s my arm.

The groaning trencher there ye fill,
Your hurdies like a distant hill,
Your pin wad help to mend a mill
In time o’ need,
While thro’ your pores the dews distil
Like amber mead.

His knife see Rustic-labour dight,
An’ cut you up wi’ ready slight,
Trenching your gushing entrails bright,
Like onie ditch;
And then, O what a glorious sight,
Warm-reekin, rich!

Then, horn for horn, they stretch an’ strive:
Deil tak the hindmost, on they drive,
Till a’ their weel-swall’d kytes belyve
Are bent like drums;
Then auld Guidman, maist like to rive,
Bethankit hums.

Is there that owere his French ragout,
Or olio that wad staw a sow,
Or fricassee wad mak her spew
Wi’ perfect scunner,
Looks down wi’ sneering, scornfu’ view
On sic a dinner?

Poor devil! see him owre his trash,
As feckless as a wither’d rash,
His spindle shank a guid whip-lash,
His nieve a nit;
Thro’ bluidy flood or field to dash,
O how unfit!

But mark the Rustic, haggis-fed,
The trembling earth resounds his tread,
Clap in his walie nieve a blade,
He’ll make it whissle;
An’ legs, an’ arms, an’ heads will sned,
Like taps o’ thrissle.

Ye Pow’rs wha mak mankind your care,
And dish them out their bill o’ fare,
Auld Scotland wants nae skinking ware
That jaups in luggies;
But, if ye wish her gratfu’ prayer,
Gie her a Haggis!

I've bought a haggis. It was reduced in price from £2.75 to £1.13. I'll probably have it, or some of it, with brussel sprouts or peas maybe. I've had the veggie Simon Howie one before, but not the offal/meat one. The veggie one was very nice. Let's see how this one fares. :unsure:

I like haggis too
When were in Scotland, back in October 2020, l got Haggis Pakora, at Morrisons, in Inverness!

I get that brand too, it’s rather good
Plus it’s quite highly rated (for pre-packed) by our Scots colleague at work

I can annoy him though, by offering to bring him this

He gets all unintelligible in his response…
And, gets even worse when l (wrongly!) tell him that it states ‘Product Of Spain’ on the label:angel:

Apparently M&S sell this over the Border

On another border raid (July 2021), when we ventured up, from Northumberland (we stayed in Felton), l had Haggis Panini, at Coldstream
