not just Hindu's

"For Sikhs, Diwali is particularly important because it celebrates the release from prison of the sixth guru, Guru Hargobind, and 52 other princes with him, in 1619"

Are you all Hindu's?
How so? Do you need to be an adherent of a specific religion or faith to wish someone a happy <festival>?

I might assume you wish people a Happy Christmas even though they may not be a practising Christian? Perhaps you have even bought a present for a non Christian or perhaps you're not a Christian yourself but observe Christmas traditions?

And not just Hindus and Sikhs - but also Jains and some Buddhists. And lots of people who will take any excuse for a bit of a celebration! ^_^

everyday is a school day , I had to google Jains
"Jainism is an ancient religion from India that teaches that the way to liberation and bliss is to live a life of harmlessness and renunciation. The aim of Jain life is to achieve liberation of the soul"

Indeed. I follow the main religion in London of worshipping greed and over-hyped electronics including religious festivals led by Apple each September. However I do wish people of other faiths enjoyment of their festivals as I'm all about love and understanding.

Something I do miss about living in Edinburgh (compared with just outside of Leicester)..... The lack of any kind of half decent Indian sweet shop. Happy Diwali.

Birmingham City Council use the same lights for Diwali celebrations in Sparkhill Park and Bonfire Night a week or two later

Whereas Bradford use the same lights for Eid, Christmas, Diwali and Vaisakhi. In fact, because the festivals are spread throughout the year, they leave the lights on (the buildings) permanently - only changing the written message for each one.

Can't beat a bit of Northern thrift.
