Here's a couple of tunes from bagpipes that are far more melodic than the Scottish variant

Firstly the Uilleann pipes from Ireland - if only I could play mine as well

Ans then a modern take on Northumbrian pipe music by Kathryn Tickell.

Just because I posted it, doesn't mean I liked it!!
Since I had to suffer that, I thought you could all share my pain...

There's a very strong tradition of bagpipe manufacture and bagpipe-playing in Pakistan. Not sure why that is, proabably a legacy of colonialism. Not sure if the sound of those pipes is quite like the Scottish pipes, but deffo a darn sight cheaper.

Sadly the majority of Pakistan pipes that make their way to the UK are cheap and nasty. They are derided in the specialist piping forums and beginners are steered away from the temptation to buy a cheap imported set. They can be made to work but a considerable amount of remedial action is needed to match the quality of UK and Irish makers.

Having said that I purchased an Indian low whistle in D key and although it was rough and ready it was in tune and played well needing little air to get it to play the upper octave notes.

You may be wondering what we have in the way of entertainment; Well, we've got bagpipe playing - that's always been in the way of entertainment...
