Had the above for 5 years and find it invaluable, on average change the batteries in both units each year. Howevr even with new batteries the wireless unit now seems to be malfunctioning....a route that used to be 10 miles now appears to be 5 miles?? in order words the unit seems to be running slow and not recording my correct mileage? Is this a common problem? Should I buy a new unit after 5 years? Is there any way to fix?

Have you checked the alignment of the magnet with the sensor on the wheel? Sounds like it is not getting all of the input.. Our had the distance changed between the receiver and transmitter? Or have you had a new front light recently? And also check you have the correct settings for wheel size....

I have strada wireless on 4 bikes. For some reason, one of them stopped working after a few years, and despite changing batteries in the head unit and sender unit it still wouldn't work. The head unit worked fine when coupled with sender units on the other bikes, so it would appear that the sender unit was to blame. No known fix other than replacement, I'm afraid - and of course the sender unit is not sold as a separate item.

The signal from the sender to the unit is vulnerable to interference from other bike's units and (more likely), some lights. I had a similar problem and discovered my Cateye wireless unit was malfunctioning when I switched my (dynamo) lights on.

the strange thing is the signal does not disappear. I kept a close eye on it tonight on my 12 mile commute home and digits are moving but more slowly and the twelve mile distance is now recorded as 8 miles. The bike has had the same setup the last 4 years and the contacts are clean and positioned correctly...bit of a mystery really. I think I will use it as an excuse to buy a new "union jack" strada wireless for my soon to be built (by my LBS) equilibrium 20
