You do get used to it in the end. Just takes a while for your body to adjust to the regular riding and recovering from that in a quick time frame.

Make sure you get your 7-8 hours of sleep otherwise it'll catch up with you.

Also, slow down. Over a 14m commute my comfortable effort is only 4-5 mins slower than riding flat out.

Fast and careful!
I am starting my winter commuting pattern now, normally 4 days a week i commute 30 miles a day minimum, the summer months are 250 to 300 miles a week ,and days off are one recovery ride and one distance ride .i don't hang about and averages are growing,my hours vary, but try not to let it interfere with the riding, rest is important got to get my 8 hours though the weekends is hard, some days i only get 1 hours rest all day,but as we all know it gets under your skin and you keep going

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I end up sneaking out at 6:30 to 7:00am on the weekends hoping I don't wake the house.
Unfortunately the kids wake up and swmbo decides to have a lie in , i have missed many a club run because she surfaces after i should have gone out the door.
To put it into perspective she does have long term health issues that does mean she gets tired etc etc so i might feel miffed i do need to take a step back and put the family 1st.I can always go out for a couple of hours if im lucky solo later on.

I honestly sometimes wish my commute was longer as it's only a 5 mile RT. Obviously this is great for many reasons but I'd like to have longer rides built into my day. I make up for it by literally never taking public transport anymore, since I got the bike it's my only means of getting about in London.

What's stopping you extending your commute route, my work is 2 miles from home.

My daily commute is usually 35 miles round trip 4 days a week.
Friday's used to be daddy day with jnr.
He started school this week which means I will be going back to work on a friday and adding another days commute to my total.
