Can't see if they signaled or not but if I was going by their road position I would have assumed they were going left - I wouldn't filter down the left hand side of traffic to the front of the line if I was going right.

Agree with Summerdays. Your positioning was wrong. You probrably confused the driver thinking you were going left or straight on. You should never overtake like that and cut right.

The driver however should have seen you and made allowances. But you shouldn't put yourself in that situation where a car driver can do that type of maneuver . He was very naughty to cut the roundabout too.

I would have assumed the person was turning right as indeed they did.
The driver shouldn't have gone for the overtake at the pinch point but the "MGIF on a miniround about" (sic) was performed by the cyclist.

Edit: Sorry summer, did you mean the cyclist turning left? I thought you meant the car.

Also agree. It was in fact pretty good driving: your positioning suggested a left turn, and then when you suddenly turned right from almost into the mouth of the junction to the left, they managed to avoid you.

Filtering on the left to turn right from the left-hand side is not a great idea.

I don't like riding over the mini roundabout because cars from the left go too fast and don't see you in time,

Why would you assume they were going right ... they were going to the left hand side of the entrance to the roundabout and then continued around the edge. If you want space - then use it.

I've edited my post summer, I thought you meant you would have assumed the car was turning left not the cyclist, I was agreeing with you I thought the positioning of the cyclist was wrong but I misunderstood you slightly

Just seen your reply - if it was me I probably wouldn't have filtered in the first place - that left the space to the right for the car. At that point the car may obscure your view and also go at the same time, on a mini roundabout you don't want that.

As for the cars from the left, if you are further to the right in the first place then you become easier to see for them and further away from their line and more obvious that you are going right.

Nobody has suggested going over the centre of the mini-roundabout, but for my part at least I'm suggesting two things:

1. The person exhibiting MGIF syndrome was you

2. Your road positioning at the entry to the roundabout and as you set off both suggested a left turn

I thought the tape slightly sad.

Yes, the Polo drove on the painted centre of the mini roundabout. But so (almost certainly) do most road users at that junction. Have a glance at other mini roundabouts placed like that. Many road users (although not right to do so) will cross on the painted area.

The motorist may also have wanted to give the cyclist a wide berth. It was not pretty driving, but it didn't warrant the sarcastic "Well done" from the cyclist.

It certainly didn't warrant editing and posting. Among some whose inut is excellent, this may be one of those helmet-cammers who has limited understanding of the highway, maximum devotion to their own ego and a sort of niggling need to fall out with anyone, anytime, for any reason.

Sadly for the intelligent and responsible users of these devices, this sort will just devalue the stock.

MGIF syndrome is usually taken to imply doing so in a pointless and/or dangerous way.

For car drivers, the classic case is a close pass just short of stationary traffic.

For cyclists, the classic case is only one or two cars at a red light, and filtering to get in front rather than simply adopting primary behind the car.
