Have you become a 'citizen'?

I'd say yes. It's like universities. Years ago we thought of the obvious ones, then the 'lesser ones' like Lancaster, Durham etc. Now we hear of Bolton university for example! A city to me is a vast place with very high buildings, massive traffic congestion and not a blade of grass for miles! Not just a place that applied for city status, with the winners being chosen by pulling numbered balls out of a velvet bag.

City status is just a symbolic manifestation of the class deference rife in English (not UK) society.

I went to UWIST and got a good degree that the time I spent getting it repaid very well.

I see Milton Keynes is on the city list, which is nice for me as my first degree is from the Open University.

It's all change round here, first Chelmsford was made a city, then Sahfend, now Colchester.

It appears one way to get city status is to have your MP murdered.
